I would not wish this place on my worst enemy. My husband and I were brought here after a car wreck. My husband broke his back but they damn near killed him. They couldn't control his pain or oxygen levels and kept telling me he had COPD. I said first I have ever heard of that and he had a physical two weeks ago. His missed his surgery because they overmedicated him and he became hypoxic. When I questioned the surgeon about the two other breaks he said I didn't read the chart I just look at the films Then they strapped a bipap to his face and told me it was because he had sleep apnea and had to suck the co2 out of him. He was unable to sign consent for the surgery and no one bothered to tell me when it was happening. Oh and this was in the ICU. The nurses were very nice but not well trained which is the fault of the administration. There is absolutely no communication between departments and I as a lay person had no understanding of who was who. There are residents and attending s and PAs but who the heck was in charge I had no idea. When I was at home to take care of our children they left him to scream in pain. I would call at night and they would say he was resting comfortably and he would tell me when I got there in the morning it was the worst night of his life and not to leave him alone there. We got a transfer to StonyBrook where they had his pain and oxygen under control in under an hour and we saw a trauma and surgical spinal team both at the same time. They explained his treatment plan and how the surgery would be preformed and what to expect of his recovery. STONY BROOK WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND REASSURING. It was the right place to be.

I would not reccomend this hospital if it was the last hospital on long island. I took my girlfriend there because she was feeling suicidal and wanted to die. She started in the emergency room and then she was transported to the axis unit........the emergency psych unit ....I myself received a phone call from the charge nurse Marjoree telling me that because she is suicidal and wants to kill herself she is being discharged because they can't do anything to help her......basically they Dont care if she dies or even kills herself.......they need to be shut down and this women or nurse or whatever she is needs to be fired........If you have loved ones who feel suicidal Dont take them here

My girlfriend Kathy was in the emergency room for a tibial fracture on August 5th, 2017. Kathy was treated extremely well by everyone in the hospital. Brookhaven has people that really care about how you feel. The hospital is well runned and we would recommend to anyone who needs medical attention. I myself had hernia surgery back in 2016 and I was treated also like a king. Thank you for the staff for caring for Kathy and making her feel special.

As for my experience in the ER I waited seven hours. No one offered me an ice pack or a Tylenol. Of course I asked. Someone brought and ice pack but the Tylenol took 7 hours because the nurse forgot to remind the Dr. (dr own words). I did get a cat scan and was told I had something on my lungs that could be a bruise or bronchitis but no one ever listened to my breathing. I never had any kind of exam. Oh but I did get an saline IV for billing purposes ( oh I forgot to mention as soon as they knew my husband was being transferred they ran every test in the book and made him stand for an XRay with an unstable break in his spine that already showed in a cat scan and MRI,just so they could bill my insurance company. )I'll just stop here , I'm still just too disgusted and it's three weeks later. I hope they shut this place down

I am giving them only one star because they use outside , private doctors who will accept some of the money your insurance pays out, but will ask for more than insurance pays out. Brookhaven accepts my insurance and I should not have to be paying for private doctors. I am only responsible for my copays, not more than that since this hospital DOES accept my insurance plan. . Avoid going here unless you want to pay hundreds more that are not party of your copay. It is just wrong.

You don't deserve any stars. My mother was brought in for side pain and trouble breathing. Given muscle relaxers, nebulizer and sent home. Pain and breathing issues continued for 2 weeks. Brought her back. ER said to continue same treatment. Ny sister said NO, YOU'RE DOING A CT SCAN. Doctor Win came in a few hours after while my mom was alone and said sorry mam, you have cancer and will die. Then left. No comforting, no support, no nurse called to be there, nothing. Bedside manner sucks, treatment sucks, place looks run down,... My mom said after she rather die at home than go back for any biopsy or chemo. Wouldn't go in those doors if I was standing in front of building bleeding to death.
